1. How do I adopt a puppy from Southwest Virginia Chihuahua?


To adopt one of our adorable puppies, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to a successful completion of our application process. To secure your chosen puppy, a deposit of $250.00 is required. This deposit will be deducted from the total price of the puppy. Once your application is approved and the deposit is made, we will guide you through the next steps, including using our Puppy Portal to complete necessary documentation and keep up with your puppy’s progress.

2. What will my puppy come with?


When you adopt a puppy from Southwest Virginia Chihuahua, we provide all the essential documents and items to ensure a smooth transition:

  • Registration papers for the appropriate registry (ACA, CKC, or AKC), confirming your puppy’s pedigree.

  • A 3-generation pedigree certificate outlining your puppy's lineage.

  • A comprehensive care package that includes basic necessities like food, a toy, and a blanket with the mother’s scent to help ease the puppy into their new home.

  • A 1-year health guarantee to protect against any congenital or genetic issues commonly found in Chihuahuas.

  • All vaccination and veterinary records to date.

3. How much do your puppies cost?


Our pricing depends on the registration type of the puppy:

  • ACA or CKC Registered:

    • Males: $1,800

    • Females: $2,200

  • AKC Registered:

    • Males: $2,200

    • Females: $2,600

4. I don’t live in Virginia. How can I get my puppy?


We offer ground transportation for customers outside of our immediate area. Our delivery policy is as follows:

  • Up to 125 miles (250 miles round trip) is free of charge.

  • Beyond 125 miles, transportation is billed as follows:

    • 126-199 miles: $100

    • 200-250 miles: $200

    • 251-300 miles: $300

    • 301-350 miles: $400

  • Transportation charges must be paid 24 hours in advance of the scheduled meet-up.

  • For distances over 300 miles, we can assist in arranging third-party transportation services (buyer assumes risk and costs). Please note, airline transport will involve additional fees, including airline fees, nanny service fees, health certificate, and any USDA-related charges.

5. Do you offer payment plans?


Yes, we do offer payment plans. After the initial deposit, you will gain access to our secure Puppy Portal, where you can make payments, view your balance, and track your puppy’s progress. Please note that the entire balance must be paid before you can take your puppy home. Our payment plan terms require half of the puppy’s price to be paid upfront, with the remaining balance spread out over six months. A 39% APR applies to the remaining balance.

6. What is the Puppy Portal?


Our Puppy Portal is a secure section of our website where you can:

  • View and send messages directly to us.

  • Sign important documents such as the Deposit Agreement, Bill of Sale, Health Guarantee, and your application.

  • Make payments and view your balance.

  • See weekly progress reports and updated pictures of your puppy.

7. What does the health guarantee cover?


We offer a 1-Year Health Guarantee to protect against life-threatening congenital and genetic defects. This includes:

  • Congenital Health Issues: If your puppy is diagnosed with a life-impacting congenital defect within the first year, we offer a replacement puppy or a refund.

  • Genetic Disorders: If your puppy is diagnosed with a life-threatening genetic disorder within the first year, you can choose between a replacement puppy or a refund.

To validate the guarantee, you must have your puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of bringing them home. Any health concerns must be reported to us within 48 hours of diagnosis, and we may request a second opinion from another veterinarian.

8. What is not covered under the health guarantee?


Our health guarantee does not cover:

  • Smaller “teacup” Chihuahuas due to the inherent health risks associated with their size.

  • Common, treatable conditions such as parasites, ear infections, or respiratory infections.

  • Injuries or health issues resulting from neglect or improper care.

  • Cosmetic conditions such as underbites or undescended testicles.

10. What happens after I make a deposit?


Once you make the deposit, you’ll receive access to our Puppy Portal, where you can monitor your puppy’s growth, sign necessary documents, and make additional payments. You'll also receive weekly updates on your puppy’s progress, including photos and health status. The deposit is non-refundable but will be applied toward the final purchase price of your puppy.

11. How can I track my puppy’s development?


Through our Puppy Portal, we provide weekly progress reports on your puppy’s development. This includes photos, updates on milestones, and information about their health, eating habits, and temperament. We want to keep you informed every step of the way so that you feel connected to your puppy from day one.

12. What documents do I need to sign to complete the adoption?


To complete the adoption, you’ll need to sign the following documents:

  • Deposit Agreement (initially required to reserve your puppy).

  • Bill of Sale (finalizing the purchase and outlining terms).

  • Health Guarantee (confirming the terms of your 1-Year Health Guarantee).
